The Home Natural Dyer: Bundle Dyeing and More

8. November @ 09:00 - 10. November @ 16:00

Experience the limitless possibilities of plant dyeing during this 3 day home dyer’s workshop. Learn how to unlock the colour potential of plants that exist all around you; in the wild, on roadsides, in the markets, growing in your garden and from food scraps in your kitchen.

During the workshop we will explore two natural dyeing techniques : Ecoprinting and Immersion dyeing.  Ecoprinting or contact printing is a method of dyeing and creating designs with foraged leaves, flowers, seed pods and bark to print various shapes and colours on fabric and paper using the plant material’s own dye, pigments and tannins. Each plant is unique, the same plant might give you a different dye on a different day. The magic of nature plays the most vital role in this process, which makes the result of each creation a one-of-a-kind piece.  We will also be using a technique called Immersion dyeing. We’ll make a pot of dye, strain the dyestuff and immerse our fibers into a dye solution pot, completely covering the fibers with dye and waiting.

In this 3-day workshop, you will learn:
• The foundation and wisdom of Natural Dyeing
• Introduction to immersion plant dyeing and ecoprinting techniques
• Ethical fibers for natural dyeing
• Dyers’ equipment and tools
• Where and how to identify local plants for dyeing
