Our reliable longtime partner Wahana Gili Ocean leaves daily from Padang Bai to Lombok or Gili Islands. The bus ride from Seminyak area takes about 1,5 hours to Padang Bai. The speedboat from Padang Bai to Lombok takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes and then another 10-15 minutes from Lombok to Gili Trawangan and 5 minutes to Gili Air.

The booking process – How it works

Booking with us is easy. Fill in the booking form. You will get a booking confirmation by email. You just need to reconfirm this email to make sure all details are correct. Then you get picked up at your desired date and the driver will bring you to the harbour in Padangbai. If you chose to pay in cash you will pay at the office of the fast boat operator in Padangbai and receive the physical ticket so you can enter the boat. If you chose to pay online, you won’t need to pay in cash anymore. If you booked an open ticket please confirm your return date to the fast boat provider or to us at least one day (during high season minimum 2 days) before departure.

Frequently asked questions

I want to go from Bali to Gili Trawangan but back from Lombok to Bali. Is this possible?

Yes, you can chose Bali-Gili T and Lombok-Bali in the booking form. In case you harbour of departure changes please let the provider or us know.

How do I get from Gili Trawangan to Gili Meno, Gili Air or Lombok? Is this transfer included in the price?

You can use one of the frequent boats traveling between the 3 Gili Islands and Lombok. This transfer is not included in the fast boat price. Prices to get from one island to the other is about 1 USD per person.

Should I book my accommodation on Gili Islands in advance?

Not necessarily. Especially on Gili Trawangan there is plenty of low budget accommodation. You may just arrive and walk around a bit and then decide where to stay. During high season (July-August and Christmas+New Year) it gets a bit tougher. You may want to book something in advance. The accommodation options on Gili Meno and Gili Air are limited. You may want to do some research first. You should still be able to find a suitable accommodation on these two smaller islands without booking in advance.

Transfer to Gili Air: Booked the day before, nice email contact. We should wait in front of our Hostel between 6.45 to 7.30 am for pick up, the shuttle arrived at 7.30 am. That was fine for us, because we've been the last to pick up and it's hard to estimate the right time collecting many people from different places. Our provider was Gangarri, arrived we and our luggage were provided with stickers, after 20 min we went on board. The street traders give you the chance to get some snacks for the ride. Everything went great!: We booked two days in advance and got instant response. We first sat on the wrong shuttle (there should be a mention in the description that a driver from Wahana will be the pick-up person or at least a shuttle with the logo). We were confused because several drivers arrived and we accidentally sat in the wrong car. Everything worked out well though after we got in the right car :) The departure times don't really fit at all. The boat left at 2.30pm from Padang Bai and 11.30am from Gili Trawangan. Good price-performance ratio: It's time to get started with the reviews. I have been to the Gilis probably 10 times already and several times to Lombok. I have tried several speedboat providers before and have been satisfied with Wahana's price-performance ratio. The drivers get heated sometimes but otherwise everything has been ok. If you lose your ticket you will get a new one whereas other providers make you buy a new ticket. You will be dropped off at home instead of a common drop-off point. All in all they are very flexible and I will keep using their services in the future, too.
Cheap and fast crossing: Our booking was well taken care of by Riki via Email - she always replied immediately. Everything worked as promised. Punctual, cheap and fast boat crossing to Gili Trawangan. Unfortunately the shuttle bus transfer from Jimbaran to Padang Bai took 3 hours because many other customers were also pick-up along the way. Maybe better to take a private taxi there, it's a lot faster and doesn't cost a lot more.

Dream Vacation, dream pictures – no Photoshop needed!: The service was great! We were picked up from our hotel, the speed boat trip to the island was an experience in itself! Getting to Gili Air means stopping at the other two islands first and marvelling at the view. And after that it only gets even better! Gili Air is an island right out of those photoshopped magazines. Only this is not photoshopped. The beach is clean, the water too, you can go snorkeling wherever you want, you'll always find an astonishing view. There's friendly people everywhere, bars and restaurants with delicious food and a nice atmosphere. It's just perfect for everyone's dream vacation!

Cheapest way to get to paradise.: There is not much to say about the Gilis. - It is awesome there! We booked with 3 friends and had an amazing time on Gili Travangan. Easy to book. Uncomplicated booking, anytime again: We used the speedboat transfer from Padang Bai to Gili Air and back. Both times we booked pretty late in the afternoon / evening but quickly received feedback from Riki through WhatsApp. As usual in Southeast Asia, the boat departed with a delay. If you expect the same punctuality as in Germany you are wrong here.. The transfer to and from the hotel worked super both times. We would always book again through Study in Bali.
Everything worked: The trip from Amed to Gilis with the provider Kuta Hitam was not exactly optimal. We paid at the check-in and received our stickers. The guy didn't give us any tickets though. We didn't know that those were also needed. They didn't want us to board the boat without the tickets, but after some explanations and discussions the issue was solved. On board it smell of vomit and the little boat was hopelessly overcrowded. We were asked to hold our 7-year old daughter on the lap, which was very difficult in the narrow seats. The crossing was very uneasy - many people were vomiting. But I guess there's not much anyone could do about it... The return trip to Padang Bai with Semaya One was much more pleasant. Except for the almost 2 hours delay. Also the transfer to Sanur went smooth and flawless.

Easy and cheap: We went to gili trawangan a few werks ago. The driver will pick you up at your location and he will get you to padang bai. The boat is ok. A little bit more space would be great, but its still ok. Dont sit on the top - you will get toasted :D The gilis are awesome and you have to be there. 4/5 stars because of 40 min delay at our return from gili to bali.
Good but wet.: Went to Gili Trawangan last summer. It was much cheaper than any other company and service was good. We went on the rooftop, cause we didn't want to get seasick. In the beginning this was great, but after ten minutes the waves were higher and we were wet from head to toe. We got a plastic bag to put our belongings in, to protect themagainst the water. On THE way back we managed to claim a seat inside. Not enough seats for all the passengers inside. Had THE best time in Gili! Real good atmosphere and learned diving!
Semaya One: Die Kommunikation per Email war super. Die Abholung am Hotel war pünktlich und die Hinfahrt mit dem Boot verlief reibungslos. Die Rückfahrt war nicht schön. Das Boot kam 45 min zu spät, wir hatten schon Angst dort nicht mehr wegzukommen! Dann fuhr es noch Gili Air und Gili Meno an. In Gili Meno dauerte das Einladen der Koffer total lange, da viele Personen mit großem Gepäck einstiegen. Es lag sogar an den Ausgängen, da es nicht mehr in die Lagerungsniesche passte. Die Luft wurde immer schlechter im Boot. Die Fenster konnten nicht geöffnet werden wegen den hohen Wellen. Es war so stickig, die Luft stand. Da eine Person kollabierte, wurden dann endlich die vorderen Türen aufgemacht. Das Gepäck im Gang wurde zwar nass, aber es kam wenigstens etwas Luft an. Jedenfalls ging es mehren Leuten schlecht (starkes Schwitzen, Übelkeit & Erbrechen) und die Fahrt dauerte zwei Stunden. Waren wir froh endlich heil angekommen zu sein. Am Hafen würden wir von zich Taxifahrern angequatscht. Sie seien viel schneller als die Shuttle Busse. Naja wir sind nicht darauf eingegangen uns zum Büro von Semaya one und würden auf die Fahrer zugeteilt. Das ging recht zügig und die Fahrt nach Semyniak dauerte eineinhalb Stunden. Alles in allem, würden wir den Trip und die verlorene gegangene Zeit nicht noch einmal machen. Gili Trawangan hat uns überhaupt nicht gefallen. Aber da sollte jeder seine Erfahrungen machen.
Mixed experience: Pickup at the hotel was on time. Check-in was quick and well organized. The boat looked modern. There were empty seats left (we chose the departure in the morning). Tour is about half the price than with other boats. After boat left the pier we suppose there were technical problems with the engine. This caused a delay of about 2 hours. We suppose this is not a problem that occurs regularly. All in all we arrived safely at Gili Air. And btw: there was no loud music during the drive.
Good transport, the information from the speedboat provider could be better: The transfer from Ubud to Gili via Padang Bai worked well. The pick-up took place during the indicated time window and the trip in the bus was ok (we were picked up last). In Padang Bai it then became more unorganized. The driver brought us to the providers stand where we were checked in for the trip and were provided with destination stickers for ourselves and our luggage. Afterwards we were shown to our collection point and left there with no further information. From there on we didn't receive any information about departure times or how things will work. Our speedboat was then last one to leave. That was annoying.
Speedboat Gili Trawangang to Bali + Shuttle: Thank you for helping us enjoying our journey. Everything went fine from pick up at Bali till transport to the Gili Islands. Unfortunately the trip back (pick up Lombok, drive to Gili Islands and finally Bali) went way to long as expected. Due the fact we had to reach our flight back home (Denpasar to Singapore) it was not possible to use the shuttle service of ThingsToDoInBali as the speedboat ride took to many time with picking up people from every destination. Therefore we had to pay a taxi (no bluebird) which drove us on private to the airport. At least we reached our flight but for further trips I would recommend to add some additional time as the shuttle transport can be used anyway. PS: If somebody is planning to use the shuttle as well, it will not drive directly to the airport as there are other stops (Kuta f.e.) included.
The speedboat transfer was ok, overall not so good: At the hotel we were met by a very unfriendly driver. We had notified that the company that we're bringing a surfboard, but obviously it was of no importance for the driver, so he made us sit in the backseat with the board over our heads. When we asked about it we didn't get an answer. In general, the driver was very rude. When we got to Padang Bai we had to wait for an hour, and no one really gave us information about the next steps or departure time. After a short walk to the dock we were already on our way. The luggage was stowed on the top deck and everyone had to stay inside, even though some wanted to go sit on the deck. The crossing was pleasant and went fairly quick.
A disaster: Since the very first minute, everything was unorganized. The boat was 3,5h late even though the staff kept telling us it would arrive every second. The boat was overcrowded and instead of Padang Bai we drove to Lombok first. There we stopped for such a long time until 12 people got off the boat voluntarily to take the 10-hour ferry since the boat was too full because they sold too many tickets.., After waiting for 2 more hours in this overheated stuffy boat we drove at 4 pm to Padang Bai. The transit to Ubud was horrible as well, we had to leave the shuttle in the middle of nowhere and not at the hotel. When you take a look at Semaya one on TripAdvisor, you can read thousands of other horror stories as well. Dear study in Bali team, please change to another provider. In my opinion every single other provider would be better than Semaya one.
Speedboat transfer: It was very gut organized and worked out fine. Furthermore we had a nice and helpful driver, who brought us to the harbour and back right in time. While the ride he told us a lot about Bali and Indonesia. I can really recommend it to everyone. Especially the price was second to none.

Uncomplicated and easy: The process, from booking until arriving in Gili Trawangan, was uncomplicated and easy. We booked online in the afternoon - and within two hours we had received an e-mail and a WhatsApp message for confirmation. The next morning we were picked up from our hotel in Ubud with a little delay. The journey to Padang Bai took place in a small air-conditioned bus. At the harbour there were enough people to help us find the boat. Getting on to the boat with about 100 other tourists went quickly and smoothly. We only booked one-way, but consider booking it again!

Transfer to Gili Air: Everything worked perfectly. We booked the transfer the night before and shortly after received the confirmation via Whatsapp. The driver was on time, the communication was good and and the crossing went smoothly. My only advice: Take a blanket with you as the crew on the boat has the AC turned on way too cold.

Very good performance: (Almost) everything worked out perfectly. Our route was Bali - Lombok and Gili - Bali (Lombok - Gili with a local public boat). On the Gilis at the provider's office we changed our return trip date. Totally problem-free. On the way back our shuttle bus didn't take us all the way back to our accommodation. We were anyways already near Kuta so we just grabbed a taxi for the last few meters. All in all, very good performance!

Transfer to Gili T: Everything worked very well!! I booked 2 days before, but unfortunately I got the information on the day before after asking via Whatsapp, but after that everything was very professional and nice! I was picked up at 6am, which is unfortunately way too early as the boat departs only at 9.30am, and sitting there waiting for 2 hours makes you wonder the meaning of early transfer! Otherwise nothing to complain about. It was calm and quiet on the deck, dolphins were swimming next to the boat... Everything was great!
Relaxed ride with staff without contact fear - Semaya One: The arrival and return trip were respectively very different. Arrival trip: quiet ride on a big boat with many people, was absolutely alright Return trip: bumpy ride on a smaller boat due to a small storm. We sat upstairs and the crew (without exaggerating) constantly climbed over us and retained wherever they could, even on passengers etc. This was after a while very annoying because it was already super crowded and tight and there was no apparent reason to constantly climb up and down. Otherwise, very well organised. Of course you have to search for everything by yourself like everywhere in Indonesia (reception, right boat, etc.)
Gili Speedboat Transfer: Everything went great. The pick-up was delayed due to a holiday, so then we got a scooter shuttle. The return was impeccable with a transport to the hotel.
Great service on this site: Smooth and very nice email contact during booking. However, Semaya One as the speedboat provider is less recommendable: Extreme delay (1,5 hours), an overcrowded boat and an overcrowded bus on the way back to our hotel.
Very good service: The service of TTDIB was great. The hotel pick-up happened on time and as agreed. The crossing to Lombok went smoothly. Only the waiting time of 2,5 hours at the harbour in Padang Bai seemed a bit long.
Chaotic, but everything worked out: I was sceptical if it would actually work when I booked it only 2 days before departure. But as long as you ask a lot of question, you'll make work. We stayed in Padang Bai at Hotel Kerti. Coincidentally that was also our boarding spot for the speedboat. We were not picked up although we waited a long time at the hotel reception. No one answered our calls but Riki replied us promptly via Whatsapp (that calmed us a little but didn't really help). When asked, a hotel employee told us we should go upstairs to the restaurant to ask there. The staff from the speedboat provider "Wahana Gili Ocean" were there and they had already prepared our tickets. Study in Bali should have provided information about the speedboat company in the confirmation so we would've avoided the confusion. The crossing to Gili T was ok. Transport from Padang Bai to Ubud also worked well. For this price I can't complain.
Overall good :): Pick-up took place on time but we still reached the harbour only at the last second. On the way back the boat was a little late and the ride a bit rough because of the seas (about which there is of course not much one can do ;)) But overall it was a super cheap and well-organized trip :) And the Gilis are worth every rough boat ride :)
Second speedboat in the morning, afternoon return: Punctual pickup, good and fast boat transfers (nice to sit on the deck with entertainment & music), problems with the return car transfer were solved immediately, highly recommended
Spontaneous and cheap!: We found the cheapest offer on Things To Do in Bali. We booked the trip only one day in advance, but the transfer from our hotel in Canggu went very well. We were allowed to change the return two days in advance - both the route and the date. The only minus was my backpack getting wet on the way back. I would recommend putting a rain cover over yours.
Wahana: Booking went excellent, as did the pick-up too. At the harbour our luggage we loaded into the boat directly and then we waited for departure at the Wahana restaurant. The boarding was a bit chaotic as there were so many boats and customers at the dock, but we were led to our boat reliably. After 30 minutes delay we took off. No prolems on the seas... On the way back the boat was 1 hour late. Boarding and loading of the luggage went well. During the security check-up everyone had to wait a long time inside the boat while the engines were being turned on. The air was gray because of the exhaust fumes. There were no waves during the journey. Overall a good trip, good price and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Speedboat: We were picked up on time from Candidasa and even though our speedboat ride to there was a bit rough and wet, everything worked out smoothly. Unfortunately we weren't able to take the speedboat back because of the bad weather and had to take the extremely slow ferry instead. Lucky that we were notified early by Chris (thank you, you were our savior) that the speedboats won't be running, otherwise we would've missed our flight back home. Due to the demand, Wahana organized the free (probably for them much cheaper) ferry tickets and transport back to Kuta. Everything was very improvised but that seems to be the Bali way...
Extra costs: The booking generally worked well and easily, however I will not pay again through PayPal or credit card (the 600.000 IDR for two people became €45 instead of €40,34). We also had to pay an extra 140.000 IDR for the pick-up from Ubud. After a proper delay and wait (we started at 15:30 instead of 12:30), everything went well. On site (Lombok) we only had the possibility to take a private driver to get to our destination, since there was nothing else. All in all it was good, but there are just too many additional costs!
Belated but everything worked well: On our way way to the harbour the bus picked us up 45 min later than scheduled. On the way back to Bali the boat was 1,5h late. Otherwise everything was ok. The crossing and the stay worked well.
