Mount Agung Trekking

thingstodoinbali.com > Adventure > Trekking > Mount Agung Trekking

Mount Agung Trekking starts at 8pm. You need about five to six hours to reach the peak. On top you will have enough time to enjoy a gorgeous sunrise.

Going down takes about 4 hours. You should be in a healthy and fit condition in order to reach the peak.

We do not recommend to drive to the volcano on your own since you will be very tired when you come back from the peak. Also you would have to drive scooter at 2.30 am in the night to get to the volcano.

Reviews

Agony: We (my girlfriend and I) have risen on the long trek to Agung. - Transportation well - Driver nice - Guide super - very nice views - good value for money - trek to the top was hell Conclusion: You should think twice as inexperienced climbers. The trek itself is very stressful even for sporty people.
Absolutely awesome!: Organization, payment, hiking - everything worked out great! I can totally recommend it! The volcano was awesome and the female guide super sweet, and she told us a lot of things! You should definitely add this to your To-Do list ;)
Breathtaking: Sunrises are always nice, but seeing one from the top of a volcano is something I cannot find good enough adjectives to describe. The view from the top is simply indescribable! We could even see Lombok, and on the way down we encountered some curious wild monkeys. Too bad we didn't have anything to feed them. But it really is an opportunity to also enjoy the Monkey Forest at the same time and thus kill two birds with one stone.
Climbing Mount Agung: Recently our group of 3 climbed the volcano. The driver was right on time so we had more time to make it to the top (the climb is more strenuous than one would imagine). The views are spectacular, and definitely worth the trek. The only drawback was that the price is not particularly attractive. Overall a great trip with good organization.
Sunrise: The Guide awas very experienced and in perfect physical shape. He could almost run up the whole mountain. He was very friendliy and adapted the tour to our needs. The sunrise is unique but you should bring warm clothes as it is extremely cold and windy on the summit. Personally, I liked it very much. The only lack was that we made a lot of breaks and had to keep a very high pace after each. A lower pace with fewer breaks would have been better. But when you're in Bali, you should definitely do the tour it's absolutely woth it. Greetings Nils
Exhausting but the climb is worth it: It was a great tour although a lot harder than I expected. We left at 12.30am. The thousands of stairs gave a foretaste of what's gonna happen in the next hours. It was a constant uphill climb and the way was not really in a good condition. One needs to wear good shoes. The last half an hour you spend crawling on all fours and it's more clambering than walking. At around 5 am we reached the top, and I wished I had had my hat, gloves and scarf with me since it was still an hour until sunrise and the air was so cold due to the wind. The descent was also very tiring but at least in the daylight everything looked so beautiful. On the way there were even monkeys crossing our path. Throughout the tour our guide accompanied us even though he ran too fast sometimes when I would've wished that he stayed close to us the whole way. We were supplied with tea and local sweets, which was very nice. Overall we can recommend the tour, just make sure you understand that it is very exhausting and you need to be quite fit. Sore muscles included ;-) It is an unbelievable experience and you get some great photos!
Underestimated the degree of difficulty, but worth the efforts after recovering for a day.: I'm a very fit guy who loves to do sports and work out. I've been a professional road bicycle racer for four years. I love challenges and this seemed like the biggest physical challenge that Bali could offer me; which means I had to do it. I expected a long walk to the top, with an average difficulty of the track along the way. After getting to the top, I would comfortably enjoy and take in the view, after which I would start the easy descent. Boy, did it turn out different. You are picked up by the driver in the evening. You drive up to the starting point for a couple of hours, and then take off to the top. The track in the beginning was quite slippery at times (muddy), but enough trees and trunks to hold on to. As you get higher, the track gets steeper, and continuously rockier with less vegetation to hold on to. It took me about 4 hours to get up, in a slightly good condition. Make sure to bring dry clothes (cold and windy on top), and for comfort. The descent was demanding!!
Great view, but very cold!: The view from the top at sunrise is very beautiful, but the night is quite cold in Indonesian terms.
Agung trekking: It was a lot of fun. The driver was a bit late, but we still had a lot of time to make it to the top for sunrise. The guide was very cheerful, and there was a cozy campfire on the way. And the view at the top is worth it. Overall it was a very sporty and fun night!
