Fascinating tour: We booked 3 days and 2 nights. In the morning the agency explained all the details of the tour to us and we could decide with our group if we would like to start at the eastern or western end of the route. We chose the eastern route through the rainforest. Everything seemed very professional!! The tour was very very exhausting. You were soaking wet from your sweat just after a few minutes. I would recommend the tour only to people who exercise regularly. In my opinion it doesn't matter in this case if you already climbed mountains before, it wasn't the case with us. Well fitting shoes with a good grip are also important because it's pretty slippery and an uneven path. Out guide was super nice and cooked us a delicious meal together with the carriers. Once at the top the view was amazing. It's just so high above the island! The night was really cold so you should bring as much of warm clothes as you have. The next morning let us decide if we want to go further because the volcano puff the day before. Unfortunately he couldn't infirm us properly about the danger. I don't think this decision should be made by us. We have no clue about sulfur vapours and their dangers. We therefore decided with our group, unfortunately, to go back and therefore we only had one night on Mount Rinjani. Nevertheless it was worth it and a great experience!!!
I can only agree!: I did the tour along with Chris and I can 100% agree with the other reviews. Especially the last few meters are really tough but you will be rewarded with a magnificent view - simply unforgettable! A must-do!
Just do it!: To anyone who's having doubts about it, I can say from my heart, do it. It's exhausting to have what it takes to make the last 300 m, and if you have bad luck (like I did) you might also encounter rain, but it's definitely worth it. There are great views over Lombok and the volcano in volcano. The images in Google don't lie :D Everything is well organised, so JUST DO IT!
Hardest trip of my life!: I probably underestimated how difficult it might be to climb up 4.000 meters to the top of an active volcano. I didn't do much sports in the last 3 years I but running for 1,5 - 2 hours isn't a problem. So I would say my general fitness is ok. The view during the 3 days is amazing! Also I realised that I haven't done any camping in years. Camping should be on everyone's to do list at least once a year! The first day was tough and I already got the feeling that I might not make it to the peak. The second day was a bit better (less hard) and I loved the hot springs and the lake! The third day was definitely the toughest of all. You can leave some of your luggage at the base camp but it was still unbelievable difficult. Every 2-3 steps you slip back 1-2 steps. The sand is very deep and I guess the slope was 45 degrees steep. It felt like you never get closer to the peek. 5 degrees feel like -5 degrees because of the strong wind. Very proud though that I made it!
Great experience with unique views!: "We chose the 3 days/2 nights Sembalun to Senaru option, which in hindsight was definitely the right choice, as the ascent to the crater rim of Senaru is considerably longer. The tour itself is sometimes very exhausting, and only suitable for people in good condition and perseverant people. One should not underestimate this multi-day hike, especially the partially extreme slopes with sandy bottom, the tropical temperatures and the long and exhausting days. It is therefore a shame that the Mt. Rinjani is advertised by many agencies and providers as an "" excursion mountain for everyone "". We saw countless people who had to quit the tour because they were either wrongly equipped or entered the Mt Rinjani adventure with the wrong expectations. Especially the second day from the summit down to the crater lake and high up the other side was rough. However, there were beautiful hot springs waiting halfway down for some cooling off. All in all the efforts are worth 100%! I can only recommend this trip for everyone interested. The views, the starry night sky and the sunrise at the summit are magnificent. Especially good was the descent on the 3rd day to Senaru through the jungle... It was really a great experience and together with 2 days of relaxing on Gili Air beaches made it a great week on Lombok, which I will not easily forget... Only negative point, and therefore only the 4 star rating ... Due to the strong advertising of Mt Rinjani, there are unfortunately numerous hikers tackling the mountain every day and that's why it is crowded at the camping places and the summit. The amount of garbage was also disturbing... Nevertheless, an absolute recommendation for all those who would like to do some sports and are looking for an alternative to an island day!
Great Tour, Great Service!: To keep it short: the tour is really exhausting but definitely managable :) The guides were really nice and the porters made sure to care for water and food supply as well as the tents. Really recommend this tour!
No pain no gain!: Can only agree with the previous reviews. We had already been thinking of climbing a volcano during our mid-term break. We hadn't really informed ourselves about the options beforehand and thus decided to choose Mount Rinjani. In retrospect we thought how naive of us it actually was - but it was one of the highlights of my time in South East Asia, even if it was really strenuous to reach the top. So I would highly recommend everyone to seek for a little bit of action and exercise besides all that surfing. The organization of the trip was awesome, our guides were really nice and experienced!!! Especially the breakfasts (banana pancakes etc) were amazing!! GO FOR IT!!! ;)
